"I love the constructive idea, the idea of constructions… my painting is a mix of the human and constructions." gabriel macotela, born in mexico city in 1954, is one of mexico's most important artists. his german uncle, a ship mechanic, introduced him to iron constructions and metallic structures, which later deeply influenced his work. he studied at la esmeralda (inba), and his early experiences are reflected in his geometric forms, oxidized textures, and interlocking shapes. a painter, sculptor, printmaker, set designer, editor, and musician, he has exhibited widely and received numerous awards, including the inba national painting salon acquisition prize in 1980.
